Greyscape
Gray sky and silver water
Black shadows, black trees
White the clouds
And crying gulls
White the snow on mountain peaks
White the crest, and black the wave,
Black the ocean’s rocky shore
A cold wind blows
Later the ocean
Still as beaten steel
Cold as death
Beyond fear
Empty the landscape
Black the wet earth, and barren
And on the rocks
Driftwood
Logs bleached by the ocean’s salt
White as old bones
No breath stirs the air
